Isn’t the Baton
3 better than an S1R Baton II? It does have a much longer run time for
the same output, otherwise almost the same light. The Baton 3 Premium
has the wireless charger, but you can buy one for a S1RII if desired.
The S1RII made in aluminum has a feature not found on the other metals, nor
on the Baton 3. The S1RII in aluminum can be made “safe” by unscrewing
the tail cap a quarter turn. Unless the tail cap is fully tightened
an Al S1RII will not accidentally turn on – like in your pocket.
Now if you plan to keep the light in the wireless charger then you don’t
need to worry. But if you plan to carry it loose in your pocket or toolbox
the S1RII can easily be made safe or enabled with a quick twist. The
other lights will need to be locked out or unlocked by holding the button
down for a bit, and it isn’t a simple twist. It’s hold down the button,
stare at the light till it locks, then let go. Same to unlock it, not
just a simple twist.
So for pocket carry, I’d still pick an aluminum S1RII, otherwise the Baton
3 if it won’t be in your pocket. Note this is not a nut-roaster.
It will get hot, but the big problem is going to use it and it has run to
empty.
